(A tribute to my Uncle Phil. RIP 1942-2017)<\/em><\/p>\n

Once upon a time,<\/p>\n

There lived an uncle of mine,<\/p>\n

A true gentleman and humble to boot,<\/p>\n

A loving father no-one could repute,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The harmonica he loved to play,<\/p>\n

His talents fully on display,<\/p>\n

And on his battered old spoons,<\/p>\n

He could really belt out some tunes,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He could muster a yarn,<\/p>\n

And tell it with great charm,<\/p>\n

Crafting his stories by hand,<\/p>\n

His visions and plans were totally grand,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He could bring amazing characters to life,<\/p>\n

Adding in just a touch of strife,<\/p>\n

He used many a clever disguise,<\/p>\n

To save some reputations was certainly wise,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Now Sawn Off was always in trouble,<\/p>\n

He could almost be Uncle Phil\u2019s double!<\/p>\n

Rolling from danger to disaster,<\/p>\n

This writing was coming from a master,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

This novel we now call Yarnbull,<\/p>\n

Sure has plenty of pull,<\/p>\n

To suck you into the storyline,<\/p>\n

With writing that is oh so mighty and fine,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Now I\u2019m no prude,<\/p>\n

But some of it was just a bit rude,<\/p>\n

I blushed with every scene,<\/p>\n

I\u2019m your niece, can you please keep it clean!<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

How can I read your words,<\/p>\n

When you keep adding explosive little turds!<\/p>\n

But he continued with determination and drive,<\/p>\n

Until his heart gave out at seventy-five,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

From a lifetime spent in the bush,<\/p>\n

His memories gave him plenty of push,<\/p>\n

To create some stories for all to enjoy,<\/p>\n

But to bathe in the limelight he was far too coy,<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

He never got see his work completed,<\/p>\n

He was most definitely cheated,<\/p>\n

So we added author to his headstone,<\/p>\n

For he was the greatest writer our family has ever known.<\/p>\n
